History of the Taieri 7's
The Taieri Queens Birthday weekend Junior 7 aside tournament
was first held in 1962 and has been held annually since. The
first year the tournament was held was at Memorial Park as
the pavilion at Peter Johnstone Park was under construction.
Approximately 40 teams, mainly from the metropolitan area,
participated in the inaugural event. Over the past few years
there have been an average of 90 teams from throughout Otago
participating with each team consisting of 10 players along
with families, supporters and coaches – estimated 2000
people at PJ Park on the day - all being catered for by the
club volunteers.
